Choose, compare and revise a result

Compare takes, see what changed and pick the one to keep.

Updated

Change one result

  1. In the conversation, find the result you want to change and select Refine on it.
  2. Under Refine this output, choose what changes: Whole output, Part of the output or Specific time range.
  3. For a part, describe it in your message, for example "the toolbox" or "the left side of the frame". For a time range, enter Start seconds and End seconds.
  4. Select Use as target. A chip above your brief shows Refining the whole output or the range, such as Refining 0:03–0:07.
  5. Describe the change and say what to keep: "Keep the lighting and the product angle; make the first two seconds tighter."
  6. Send.

Nothing is sent or charged until step 6. Your current brief, files and references stay as they were. To drop the target, use the chip's clear button; your other references stay.

Specific time range appears only for video and audio whose length Wavemaker has measured. The range starts at the start time and stops before the end time, and it must fall within the file's length. The original file is checked again when you send.

Check that it worked

The new result appears in the reply. The original stays in the conversation and on the Outputs page, and you can compare the two.

Choose between takes

When one request makes several takes, each one carries a badge such as Take 2 of 3.

  • When the agent asks you to choose. It shows a choice card listing the takes, with a button that reads Keep and the take's name, and may mark one My pick. Select a button, or choose Or reply in your own words. After you answer, the card folds to You kept and your choice.
  • To find the other takes. Open a result's More options menu and choose See the other takes. It scrolls to the other takes in the chat, or opens the Outputs page when they aren't shown there.
  • To mark the one you'll use. Open ••• › Outputs. The page shows Your work, all together. Select Select on a take. It becomes the Selected output, and the others are listed under Other takes.

Choosing a take never deletes the others: "Every original take is preserved". Selecting an output saves a new version of the conversation with that choice.

Compare results

Compare a result with its earlier version

When a result has an earlier version, its More options menu offers Compare with version N. The comparison opens a before-and-after slider labeled with each version. Drag it, or use the arrow keys to move 5% at a time and Home or End to jump to either side. This works for images and video. If the earlier file can't be shown, you see "The earlier version isn't available to compare."

Takes made by the same request count as takes. A later request that changes the same result counts as a new version.

Compare saved versions of the conversation

  1. Select History at the top of the chat, or open ••• › History.
  2. The conversation panel opens on its Versions tab, newest first.
  3. Select an older version, then Compare with current.

The comparison is titled What’s different and lists each change, such as files, the chosen output or Library inputs. If nothing differs, it says "The saved work in these versions is the same." Select Back to all versions to return.

Revision history

Wavemaker adds a version each time a conversation's saved work changes. Every version is kept.

What you seeMeaning
Version N · CurrentThe version the conversation uses now.
NewerSaved after the version you're looking at.
No badgeAn earlier version, available to compare, restore or start from.

Each row has a short summary, such as First saved version, Restored version 3, Renamed, or Chosen output changed, and when it was saved. The list shows 25 versions at a time; use Newer and Older to page, and Refresh to load changes.

Selecting a version shows its chosen output and four sections: Files and chosen outputs, Library inputs and models, Origin and receipts and Output provenance. From there you can:

  • Download output to save that version's chosen file;
  • Original media to view it full size;
  • open Technical details and select Download record (JSON) for the saved record. The record lists the version's settings and file references, not the media files.

Browsing history doesn't select or approve anything.

Restore a version

  1. In History, select the version you want.
  2. Select Restore this version.
  3. Read the confirmation, Restore version N?, and select Restore version N.

Restoring saves a copy of that version as a new current version. For example, restoring version 3 when version 5 is current creates version 6. Versions 1 to 5 stay in history. Anything in your Library, productions or reviews keeps using the version it already points to. Nothing is generated and no credits are spent.

When it's done, you see a message such as "Version 3 restored as version 6." If someone saved a newer change in the meantime, the message tells you which version is current.

Start a new conversation from a version

  1. In History, select the version.
  2. Select Start new conversation from here, then Create conversation.
  3. Select Open new conversation, or Stay here to keep working where you are.

The new conversation gets a private copy of that version's saved work: its files, chosen outputs and Library inputs. It is named after the original, followed by "· from version N". The original conversation, its messages and your unsent draft stay where they are. Creating it costs nothing, and nothing runs until you send a message there. If you choose Stay here, the new conversation waits in your conversations list.

Other ways to start a change

A result's More options menu also offers, where they apply:

  • Make a variation, which puts the result in your draft as the starting point for a variation;
  • Animate this still, for an image;
  • Paint a mask, for an image, to mark the area to change. See Create and edit images.

If a shot in a video didn't render, the reply shows Shot N didn't render with Try shot N again, Use another video model and Skip it and finish. Shots that finished are saved. Each choice sends a normal message. These actions appear only on the latest reply, and not while it is running.

If something goes wrong

  • Restore refused because the conversation changed. Someone saved newer work after you opened History. The list reloads with the latest versions; review them and restore again.
  • "Restoring version N hasn't been confirmed." Select Check restore status before changing anything else. Checking repeats the same request, so it can't create a second copy.
  • "Starting … didn't confirm." Select Check new conversation. It reuses the same request and won't create a duplicate.
  • Refine is unavailable. Point at the button to see why. This happens when the details needed to identify the exact file are missing.
  • View-only access. You can browse, compare and download versions, but not restore them or start a new conversation.
