Recover interrupted or uncertain work

Check what happened before you retry or cancel.

Updated

Work in Wavemaker runs on Wavemaker's side, not in your browser. When a reply stops, stalls or loses its connection, your conversation, its files and anything already made are kept. This guide shows how to read what happened, pick the safe next step and know what you are charged.

From a stop to finished work
  1. Check

Read the progress line and the notice under it.

  2. Decide

Continue, retry one shot, or stop.

  3. Continue

Pick up from saved work instead of starting over.

  4. Escalate

Contact support if the state still looks wrong.

Check what happened first

  1. Open the conversation from the sidebar or from Conversations. Work keeps running while the page is closed.
  2. Read the progress line at the top of the reply. It names the stage and the state, for example Waiting for you or Stopped at making.
  3. Read the notice under the reply. A stopped or failed reply says what happened, that your work is saved, and which buttons apply.
  4. Open Steps in the progress card to see each step, how many times it was retried and whether it finished.
  5. Check My library and your Inbox for files that finished. A media job can finish after the reply that started it has ended.

Then use the tables below to choose what to do.

What each state means

The progress line and the notice under the reply use these states.

You seeWhat it meansWhat to do
The current step, then Then and the stages still to comeThe reply is working.Wait, or leave the page. It keeps running.
Waiting for youThe assistant asked a question, a choice of takes or an approval. A stage marked needs your OK is waiting on an approval.Answer in the card, or reply in your own words. A Step by step approval has no card in the web app yet; see Questions and approvals.
Stopped at a stageYou stopped the reply. The notice under it says Stopped. Your work is saved.Choose Continue from that stage, or leave it stopped.
This stopped before I finished replying, with a reason and Your conversation and files are saved. The reply failed, for example because the assistant's machine did not start or stopped responding. The progress line names the cause.Choose Continue from saved work, or Retry when it is offered.
Needs you, with Stopped: and Done: linesA spending limit or your balance stopped the work before the finished deliverable.Raise the limit or add credits, then choose Continue. Or choose Stop here.
Worked for, a duration and countsThe reply finished.Review the results.

The heading This stopped before I finished replying also tops the notice after you stop a reply. Read the line under it: Stopped. Your work is saved. means you stopped it; any other reason means it failed.

In the sidebar and on Conversations, a marker shows conversations that are Starting or Working, that Needs you, or whose last message was Not sent.

Questions and approvals

In Step by step, the assistant asks before each consequential step. The web app doesn't show approve buttons for these steps yet, so each one expires after 15 minutes and the assistant treats it as declined. Declining is a normal decision, not an error. To review work in stages, leave Step by step off and ask for a plan first; see Plan in stages.

Shots in a video

Each shot in a video has its own row in the progress card:

Shot rowMeaning
WaitingThe shot is queued.
In progressThe shot is rendering.
Didn't finishThe shot's jobs failed or were cancelled, and no take arrived.
A number of takesThe shot finished. The thumbnail is the latest take.

Messages that did not send

If a message never reached Wavemaker, nothing ran and nothing was charged. The message box keeps your words, files and model choices.

You see under the message boxWhat it meansWhat to do
Request saved · preparing… You can leave this page.Wavemaker accepted the message and is starting it.Wait. Use Check message status to confirm it arrived. Checking never sends it again.
Not sent · draft savedThe message was refused before it started. When there is a reason, it follows on the same line.Fix what the reason names. Use Edit saved draft to change the words, then send.
Model unavailable before admission and a reasonThe model you chose could not take the message.Choose another model, then use Edit saved draft and send.
A reason with Check message statusWavemaker refused the message for a reason that a retry will not fix. Nothing ran.Fix what the reason names, then send again.
Add credits to continueYour balance could not cover the message.Choose Add credits, or Change model to use a model with your own API key.
A reason with Try againA temporary problem stopped the message, such as a busy service.Choose Try again. It sends the same saved request, so it cannot run twice.
Checking whether your message arrivedThe browser lost the answer while sending.Choose Check message status before anything else.
Not saved in this browserYour draft could not be stored in this browser.Choose Retry saving.

A workspace runs up to 24 assistant replies at once. A message that would start one more is refused for now; choose Try again after a short wait.

Continue from saved work

Continue from saved work sends a new message, "Continue from the saved work.", so the assistant picks up from the files and plan already saved in the conversation instead of starting over. After you stopped a reply, the button names the stage, for example Continue from making.

  1. Read the notice so you know what was saved.
  2. Fix the cause if the notice names one: add credits, raise a spending limit or answer a question.
  3. Choose Continue from saved work (or Continue on a spending notice).
  4. Watch the new reply's progress line.

Continuing is a new request. It reserves and charges only what it runs. Files that already finished stay in the conversation for the assistant to use.

Retry and Remake

  • Retry appears on some failed replies. It sends your original message again as a new request.
  • Remake in a reply's actions sends that request again, with its files and references, as a new request. It asks you to confirm first and may use credits.

Prefer Continue from saved work when anything was saved: Retry and Remake start the work again from the beginning.

Redo one shot

When a video shot fails, the progress card shows Shot N didn't render with Shots that finished are saved. Choose how to go on. Choose one:

  • Try shot N again makes that shot again with the same direction and keeps the other shots.
  • Use another video model opens the video models you can use now. Picking one sets it as the message box's video model and makes the shot again with it. If none is listed, it says No other video model is available.
  • Skip it and finish finishes the cut with the other shots.

A failed shot row also has its own Try again. Each choice sends a new message, so the new take is charged like any other take. These choices appear only on the latest reply, once it has stopped working.

Stop work

ControlWhereWhat it stops
StopBeside the message box while a reply runsThe assistant's work on this reply. The notice shows Stopping… until it is confirmed.
Stop this jobIn a step's details under StepsOne media or compute job that is still running.

Stop ends the assistant's reply, usually within seconds. If the assistant's machine does not respond, Wavemaker ends the reply itself within about a minute. Media jobs the assistant already started keep running and are charged when they finish. To stop one of those, open its step and choose Stop this job. Check original job and Read output log in the same place check it without starting anything again.

What you are charged

Each step reserves its cost before it runs, is charged what it actually used, and returns the rest. See Credits and billing.

What happenedWhat is chargedWhat is kept
Message not sentNothing.Your draft.
You stopped a replyThe assistant's model use up to the stop, and steps that finished. Jobs still running are charged when they finish.Everything saved so far.
A reply failedThe assistant's model use and the steps that ran before the failure.Everything saved so far.
A job failed before it startedNothing. Its whole reservation is returned. The rest of the work.
A job failed after it startedOnly usage Wavemaker measured before the failure, never more than its reservation. Often nothing. The rest of the work.
You stopped a job before it startedNothing. The rest of the work.
You stopped a job that had startedWhat the job used before it stopped. The rest of the work.
Credits or a spending limit ran outWhat finished before the stop.Everything saved so far.

Continue, Retry, Remake and a redone shot are all new requests, so each is charged for what it runs.

Closing the tab or losing your connection

Closing the tab, losing your network or signing out does not stop a reply that has started. Open the conversation again to see where it is.

IndicatorMeaning
You’re offline. Your draft is saved in this browser.Your device has no network. The message box shows Sends when you’re back.
Back onlineYour network returned.
Wavemaker is updating. Reconnecting…Wavemaker did not answer, for example during an update. The page checks again by itself, and Retry now checks at once. Your work keeps running.
Wavemaker is updating, or your connection dropped. Reload to reconnect.Reconnecting is taking longer than usual. Choose Reload or Retry now. Your draft is saved first.
Couldn’t check progress. Retrying automatically…The conversation could not read the latest progress. It retries without sending anything.
Wavemaker was updated. Reload to continue; your draft is saved.A new version of Wavemaker was released while the page was open. Choose Reload.

Reconnecting only reads; it never sends a request again.

Check service status

Service status shows Wavemaker's latest checks of five parts of the service: Saved work and settings, Background work, Starting jobs, Library and downloads and Making media. Each reads Operational, Degraded or Unknown. Unknown means Wavemaker could not observe that part, not that it is down. Incidents that Wavemaker staff have published appear below the checks with their updates, from Detected to Resolved.

The page is not an uptime history, and it never shows an overall all-clear. An older result is marked Previous snapshot; choose Refresh status to check again. The page is served by Wavemaker itself, so it may be unavailable when Wavemaker is down.

When to contact support

Contact support when:

  • A state has not changed for much longer than the work should take, and refreshing does not help.
  • A charge does not match what ran.
  • Continue fails again with the same reason.

Open the conversation, choose Contact support from its menu and include it as context. Do not paste passwords, API keys or private file paths. See Support cases and notifications.

For developers

Keep each call's request_id. Sending the same request_id with the same body returns the original result instead of running the work twice; a new request_id is new work. Read a job with wm://job/{id} until its state is succeeded, failed or cancelled. A wait that times out only stops watching; it does not cancel the job. See Errors and safe retries.
